Our Values
chéng xìn, is a Mandarin term and has a number of meanings; integrity, honesty, genuine, acting in good faith, as well as, acting delibrately or intentionally. This pretty much sums up how we would like others to perceive us. We hope that our business dealings and behaviours reflect these attributes and more.
Where we come from
Being engineers and manufacturers has much to do with our world view and attitudes. We design, manufacture and fabricate key components for mission critical applications, where the consequences of taking short-cuts and undermining quality can have life and death consequences or crippling unforeseen costs. Of course using the correct material is central to this.
Spring Steel is incredibly important and an essential input into any developing and advanced manufacturing economy and yet is surprisingly difficult to source locally in South Africa and even more so across Africa. The main issues we encountered in sourcing spring steel and (thus aim to remove for others and ourselves) were;
- the very limited range of material grades,
- restricted dimensions (width/length and thickness of plate),
- dubious and inconsisent quality of material,
- a complete lack of advice and guidance,
- frustratingly long lead times,
- predatory pricing and
- (with a single exception) the most casual and glacial customer service imaginable.
If you have experienced any of these issues when trying to source Spring Steel (or indeed any special alloy) then consider your troubles a thing of the past.
The Cheng Xin Mission
Our mission is to faciliate the general use of Spring Steel in Africa and South Africa by providing a suitably diverse and comprehensive range of spring steel grades imported from reputable international mills and thus readily available and reasonably and fairly priced.
We provide useful practical information to engineers, designers and procurement officers, to faciliate the end to end design and manufacturing process where Spring Steel is used.
The Cheng Xin Vision
Our vision is to see South Africa and Africa develop into and even regain its world class engineering and manufacturing industries, unconstrained by the unavailability of quality spring steel metal. We wish to see a manufacturing sector that thrives and competes successfully against imports and in international markets.
